Hey ya'll, just finished a book called the Leaper and it was a little slow but the ending definitely made up for it. The following are some of my favorite quotes and excerpts
"Without God, reality is madness. Reason will tell you so. You either madly trust in God, or you trust in a world gone made without him." p. 296
"It seems doing good isn't doing good. It's desiring to be there when God shows up with the good. The truth is you only need one beautiful thing to free you and talk you out of yourself." p. 300
"I see now, Father, that all heroes are unlikely, that the world doesn't need people to be more heroic, just less comfortable. More people willing to be less for someone else's benefit, eager to be used, to rush toward what's most needed and not away from it." p.300
"You don't change the world by telling it what to do, sitting at home, and telling it what you believe. You believe by throwing yourself into it. Making a leap, getting involved, then waiting, taking some one person's place for a while, one suffering person at a time." p.300
"At first, God's gift was annoying, an interruption. When the interruption became surprising, then God was simply terrifying. But God was alive." p.301
just some food for thought, enjoy the day....only get to live it once!

Don't you think, regarding the first quote, that "the world" and "God" don't have to be, and in fact are not, separated so definitively?
"the world" is separated from god on the terms that it is opposed to GOD, but how can we know that it is opposed to god without first assuming that GOD is this way or that way. It seems somewhat circular. Especially since the only way to know god is through experiencing him in 'the world'.
so my point is that maybe the world is not 'mad', and maybe aligning yourself to god doesn't also mean you are separating, or must separate, yourself from the world.
I would agree with you to a point that the world and God are not separate to the extent that God as the Purposer, Designer, Orderer, and Lawgiver and designed the world to follow in suite i.e. rational God=rational world.
However the world is created and thus is its own thing/entity if you will, the world is Not God. Plus without God there's chaos i mean look at all the evil going on, government is mans attempt to control the chaos.
As for the only way to know God... First, you can only experience God if you know him and have faith because you can acknowledge His existence but you'll only get to that point through revelation by way of the Bible, miracles, or naturally i.e. creation.
As for separating yourself from the world...you are either of the world or your not (James, John, Paul)
hmmm, tough words. how does one live in a world that one is trying to separate from? we are of the world by nature, its unavoidable. I see the world and I see God. we experience his love only through this world, or rather through experiences of this world: relationships, nature, provisions, music, good television. It's not like a snow globe sitting on god's coffee table.
anyways, i dont want it to sound like an attack. i liked the other quotes, and the pics too.

Nah, no worries, it's good to think about stuff!
And your question is what being a Christian is all about don't ya think? Being in the world but not of it
If I am not mistaken, I think one of Chad's friends wrote that book. I think he went to school with him or something like that. He had a reading at BC when it came out.
awesome i didn't know that, i'll have to ask him about it sometime! How are you pretty girl, havin' a good summer?
