Scavenger Hunt
So I just found out I have a big quiz I am way behind in studying for. The teacher said it was canceled and then decided to give it to us. So now I have an incredible amount of homework. At least I like the atmosphere of studying at the moment: mellow music, soft night lights, sweats and a t-shirt. I also get to go on a scavenger hunt looking up definitions for a class that, sadly, I feel as if I have not learned much in. It will be one of those tests were the test teaches you. Anyway, off to finding more historical treasures...we'll see how much I can get done. Oh yes, I realize I ended many of those sentences with prepositions. To all my English major friends, I do apologize.

Adventure
What happens when five girls decide to take a 30 minutes trip to an Indian Powwow? We'll leave about 3:45, get back in time for dinner. No. It was an adventure instead :), something I'll never forget!
Our 30 minute trip down the Natchez trace ended up being about 4 hours. It is a lovely drive and police officers do want you to enjoy that drive, and not speed through it. They are also good about giving directions. We soon realized that Natchez Park is actually two hours from Jackson. Coming this far, we might as well continue. After oh maybe three wrong turns, hunger was taking over. The fruit snacks and cookies that we managed to find and split five ways didn't last long.
Our 3:45 leaving time and arrival of about 6:45 led us to a Shoney's. Lynjorae's friend, Little John, was supposed to dance around 7, I figured we might make it for that one ;). Shoney's was out of some food, but we managed to polish off some lasagna.
After arriving, we walked around to all the little booths and saw some beautiful jewelry! Pink, blue and white opal along with many other stones-just gorgeous craftsmanship! We also got to see some authentic Indian dress and dances at the 22 Annual Natchez Indian Powwow.
On the way home, Elizabeth was singing Christmas songs, Phantom of the Opera, and more. Her voice is beautiful but was stopped suddenly when we ran over a deer. A big deer. It was not a pretty site. Then the car started making a sound. It might just be that little flap on the front scraping, but we made it home.
I now know that Natchez is quite the little town and has some beautiful wild life. If you ever take the Natchez Trace, don't plan on getting off, because you are kinda stuck on it. The cardinal, deer, fox, and flowers are fun! There are some VERY old run down southern places too, that I'm sure have stories behind them.
Ya gotta love college!

Unexpected Night
So KimJo came to tell me her Gotcha story and we ended up hanging out the rest of the night-woo hoo! Surprise trip to Wok-to-Go, which was so needed because I didn't eat a whole lot for dinner. I got a strawberry Fanta and it was so good, brought me back to childhood! (unexpected rhymes are fun too!) Then we ate our Chinese and watched the Office. Ginny then accompanied me on a Gotcha attempt. For those who are unaware, my school plays a game called Gotcha in the Spring. Everyone has a name and has to 'get' the person with water. Someone has your name and unless you find out, and even after you find out, you still keep checking your shoulder to avoid getting got! So Ginny and I waited outside for my person only to find that she wasn't where we thought she was, but the spying was fun. To the neighbor who I said hi and waved too, I wanted to explain but didn't know if you wanted me too, so I figured a friendly wave might be better. Thanks for your help! The Welbertson Film Fest was also lots of fun, our boys did great!
The Word, contentment, music and some dance
I was reading something my Grandpa wrote: read the Word, it'll show you His likes and dislikes. I was amazed and so grateful for verses I read in James 1 (the whole chapter had great stuff but these were the two verses that stuck out)...
"But when he asks, he must believe and not doubt, because he who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind."-James 1:6
"Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows."-James 1:17
I finally had an evening to breathe after feeling like a non-stop rush for the past few weeks and realized how grateful I am for contentment. Sure there are things going on that I don't have control over, may not like, may wish were different but God has given peace as I trust His good and perfect plan. Praise the Lord!
Today we had a band from the Netherlands accompany our modern dance class and were combined with threes! It was a bit intimidating for us, level ones, to work with threes but it ended up being a lot of fun. The band had members from Chile, Israel, America, and Germany. It is truly amazing to see the technology, they play instruments and make beats and use macs and it's so neat! They get to play, put sounds together, make music for a living! God's creativity is so cool!
My feet are very torn up-blistery and I'm not entirely sure why but it is the life of a dancer i suppose. All I keep thinking about is the story of the missionary who had beautiful feet because she walked all over China spreading the Word-"How beautiful on the mountains are the feet of those who bring good news, who proclaim peace, who bring good tidings, who proclaim salvation, who say to Zion, 'Your God reigns!' "
It's also neat to see how music is so powerful. I love the songs'To Aslans Camp' and 'Concerning Hobbits'. Just the weight of what they encompass, the struggle, victory, tears, and joy!
For another amazing story listen to 'I Did not Catch her Name'

Break time!
I am working on my five-eight page paper on gender specific classrooms. I'm on page 3 and need a break. However, I'm afraid if I stop working, i'm going to be done for the night; 3 pages may be all i can whip out tonight which means tomorrow I have to finish it plus study for test and watch Lost. It's so doable, at least that's what I'm going to keep telling myself. Cake time! and maybe some tv :) Call center was really funny tonight...we had some very friendly people and some not so friendly....quite not so friendly. I even called one of the parents of my small group girls, that was a fun surprise! It was so nice to work in mostly daylight outside, the sun was shining and its warmer. First day back to dance and I feel the soreness coming!

Spring Break!
I can't believe it's snowing! the laundry room is clean! there are washers open! I have a five page paper to write!
For the past week I have been in Bocca FL! I just love Florida, the sunshine and the beach, there's just something special about it! Even though I did get burnt every now and then and I was radiating heat, it was so worth it! We drove the 14-16 hour ride with 3 cars full! Beach time, shopping, orange tosses, movies and more! None of us were ready to come back and after the terrential rain and slight snow today, Jackson welcomed us home with it's lovely spastic weather. Thankfully it's supposed to be back in the 70's in no time. Oh and I died my hair for the first time every, yes I am almost 20! For a month I'll be brunettish. Well I should finish cleaning, laundry, and start that 5 page paper, oi vey, welcome back!

Headlines
Sometimes headlines just really intrigue me. My favorites today were about the discovery of an all black King Penguin and the biggest house of cards!

It has been quite the day and it's only half way!
In Form and Meaning we studied Aaron Copland, whom I didn't know I loved so much! His Fanfare of the Common Man was written as a morale booster during World War II and is now used as a military recruit I think :)
Plus his Variations on a Shaker Hymn, Variation #7, a ballet, is just really pretty and well known. Apparently it was written in celebration of an American pioneer completing his PA farmhouse in the 1800's. Sad that the others in the variation got lost.
Oh and we listened to Rhapsody in Blue: An Experiment in Modern Music and boy did it remind me of Grandpa, he loved show tunes! So basically I'm likin' the Modernist music well, they had their rough spot with Ives but after that, it was delightful!
So a lot of little odds and ends are coming together. I registered for classes and was finally admitted into the education department! Still waiting on my official background check card. Then I started thinking about all the classes I still have to register for and if I should be an RA or not. A quick conversation with mom and a reminder from some very wise people: one day at a time. Plus rejoice in that excitements of today!
The sun is shining after the thunder from this morning. A nice cool breeze. Deliciously soft cookies at lunch and so much more! Praise the Lord! God is good all the time!
It's break time: mountain dew and snack.....and then attack the homework, one more test 'till spring break '10!

Step into the Painting or the day....
Whew, I have been lax on my posting! Sorry about that! Let's see all of our evaluations are done and now it is time to critique. I feel like I have done a lot of that lately. We also started learning a new piece for performance tech. It was slightly intimidating to hear that once you think you have it, you don't! It just means there are a whole lot of details and always farther to explore. We have to step into the painting with the backdrop of Chopin's music. Challenge, here we come!
So this week I thought it was going to be an easy week before spring break and it is, but then I started realizing all the assignments that somehow seemed to pile up. One of which is my paper for Educational Psychology. We have to have about 9 sources, my topic is the affect of gender specific classrooms on students. Yes, i did find a whole book on the topic, actually there are quite a few. Our library however only had one. So I hopped over, checked it out, there was no wait or hold on it. Even though, I find educational topics such as this one very enlightening and wish I had more time to read them, it seems others, don't care so much. Hey, at least it means I am in the right major. I got a little nervous though because it was around the fiction section and well, I just love to read. Thankfully I resisted, plus I'm reading a very intense book by Ted Decker called Blink of an Eye.
I have determined that I should probably invest in an umbrella. Walking on campus today I ended up getting soaked, twice. I even did a nice mud number on my ankle. At least I know summer is coming!
Dancing at the Oscars was amazing! If you missed it, you have to watch it! It was neat because though I'm not nearly as good as they are, I'm starting to understand what it takes and how auditions work. After all I'm at a school that kinda specializes in that sort of thing!
After completing our capstone project, a look at the worldviews found in the tv show House, we had a House party. Now this isn't your typical House party; it was complete with Season 4 of House, brownies, chips and dip, and soda! Good times. We got confused when communicating a few times as we thought somebody had actually bought a house what with all the moving off campus. Celebrating our 97, was so worth it!
There are also many new movies coming out that I would love to see!
Our Family Wedding
Ghost Writer
When in Rome
Letters to God
The Exploding Girl
Preacher's Kid
The Last Song (yes it's Miley Cirus)
Dear John (I know it's a tear jerker but I kinda want to read the book)
P.S. finally starting to get into my homework and this is what I read: "Gregory Samsa woke from uneasy dreams one morning to find himself changed into a giant bug."-Franz Kafka's The Metamorphosis
P.P.S. Got any good movie suggestions?

It's just one of those days....
You know how you feel like you should treat yourself to something some days. Like man, I got through that, maybe I can have a treat. Funny how we tend to live for gratification and rewards. Ultimately, I should live for the glory of the Lord and that gratification is beyond enough...I'm a work in progress. So these little treats, it doesn't take much to make me smile, usually a candy bar and mountain dew make my day! What's your special treat?

Monday, March 01, 2010
So I had a rough start to the morning but I know comparatively, it wasn't that bad! Plus I got a pair of biker shorts from Wal-Mart for modern class! I have been needing some for a good two months if not more! Grandpa, Wal-mart pulled through again....well actually God did! Praise the Lord for little blessings:
-capstone group project done!
-didn't have an evaluation on a Monday (so hard to get back into dance on Mondays)
-picked up a prescription, didn't have to wait for it!
-got to talk to family
-maybe there will be a solution to fix the printer
-had a fun weekend
Now, hit the books!
